President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to inaugurate the Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (Village/Urban Cooperative “Merah Putih”) on July 21, 2025. This initiative is part of the President’s sixth Asta Cita (Visionary Aspiration), which aims to revitalize local economies and start poverty alleviation from the village level. The Kopdes Merah Putih program is one of three core strategies introduced under President Prabowo’s administration to eradicate poverty. These strategies, known as the “trident of poverty eradication,” include health, education, and socio-economic development. Each element is represented by concrete government programs aimed at delivering measurable welfare improvements. The program was launched through Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2025 on Accelerating the Establishment of Village/Urban Cooperatives Merah Putih, with the goal of building the national economy from the village level upward to reduce inequality and emancipate communities from poverty. Thirteen ministries and two national agencies are involved in the implementation of this program, alongside local government officials across Indonesia. The Kopdes Merah Putih program aims to strengthen rural economies, improve food security, reduce poverty, and eliminate illegal lending operations. By establishing cooperatives, expanding existing ones, and revitalizing underperforming cooperatives, the program aims to provide local communities with access to essential goods, loans, healthcare services, and efficient logistics. The overall goal is to boost local businesses, shorten supply chains, and improve access to resources and services in rural areas.
