President Prabowo Subianto’s diplomatic efforts have yielded positive results, according to the Presidential Communication Office (PCO). Through various missions to different countries, the President has secured 71 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with 13 countries in less than a year. This has also led to significant investment commitments totaling nearly IDR 800 trillion from four partner nations. The Senior Expert at the PCO, Philips J. Vermonte, highlighted these achievements during a public discussion on the benefits of President Prabowo’s diplomatic outreach. The event, organized by the Gerakan Milenial Pecinta Tanah Air (GEMPITA), emphasized the importance of Indonesia’s market expansion strategy, including its recent entry into the international organization BRICS. Philips clarified that Indonesia’s involvement in BRICS is not aimed at any specific country and is part of the nation’s non-aligned stance. He further mentioned the successful negotiation with President Trump, resulting in a reduction of U.S. import tariffs on Indonesian goods. Deputy Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno also addressed the ongoing discussions for further reductions and highlighted Indonesia’s current status as having the lowest tariff rate in ASEAN at 19%. He emphasized the importance of making decisions based on national interests rather than emotions, urging the public to avoid overreacting or jumping to conclusions.
