President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized his administration’s unwavering dedication to the education of the country’s youth during his State Budget 2026 Financial Note address. The event took place at the opening of the House of Representatives’ plenary session in Senayan, Jakarta. In his speech, Prabowo revealed that the proposed 2026 state budget, the first draft budget under his leadership with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, will allocate Rp 757.8 trillion to education. This amount marks the highest ever allocation for education in the nation’s history.

“We are fully committed to providing high-quality education as it is crucial for creating globally competitive human resources and combating poverty. The government will adhere to the constitutional requirement of allocating 20% of the state budget to education, equivalent to about Rp 757.8 trillion in 2026, the largest allocation to date,” Prabowo stated. He emphasized the necessity of ensuring the effective use of education funds with a focus on improving teacher welfare and quality, enhancing vocational training, and aligning curricula with the demands of the labor market.

Prabowo detailed the breakdown of the education budget for 2026, which includes funding for various programs such as Program Indonesia Pintar and Kartu Indonesia Pintar scholarships. Additionally, a significant portion of the budget will be allocated to upgrading school and campus facilities. The President also highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening schools like Sekolah Rakyat and Sekolah Unggul Garuda to provide quality education to underprivileged children.

With a vision to nurture an intelligent, innovative, and globally competitive generation, Prabowo mentioned the LPDP’s plan to award scholarships to 4,000 students in 2026 for studies at top universities worldwide. He concluded his address by stressing the importance of advancing Indonesia’s proficiency in STEM fields, emphasizing the need to excel in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
