President Prabowo Subianto, in his State of the Nation Address, emphasized his commitment to protecting the public from those who take advantage of their hardships for personal gain. He made it clear that no one, regardless of their status or wealth, is immune to the law. Prabowo stressed that his administration would enforce the law to its fullest extent, using the authority granted under the constitution and relevant trade regulations. He warned businesses against hoarding essential goods during shortages, threatening severe penalties for violators.
Prabowo also highlighted the importance of keeping critical industries under state control, in line with the principles of Indonesia’s founding fathers. He announced stricter policies that would require large-scale rice mills to obtain special permits to continue operations, aimed at ensuring that the people have access to rice of the right quantity, quality, and affordability. Prabowo urged big players in the industry to comply with the new regulations or explore other sectors, emphasizing the need to prioritize the basic needs of the people above all else.
