Addressing the 17th BRICS Summit at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, Lula praised BRICS as embodying the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement established during the Bandung Conference. He also acknowledged the current crisis in multilateralism worldwide, noting the 80th anniversary of the United Nations and the challenges faced in maintaining a collective international order.
Highlighting the historical significance of the United Nations and the rejection of dividing the world into spheres of influence, Lula emphasized BRICS’ role in promoting a multipolar world order. He concluded his remarks by stating that BRICS carries the legacy of the Non-Aligned Movement, underscoring its relevance in the contemporary global landscape. Indonesia’s participation as a full member of BRICS since January 1, 2025, further strengthens the summit as a platform for addressing political, security, and economic challenges. Leaders are expected to discuss a wide range of issues, including global governance reforms, collaboration in emerging sectors like artificial intelligence governance, climate action, environmental protection, and global health.
