French President Emmanuel Macron recently visited Indonesia to further strengthen the deep and meaningful partnership between the two countries. Macron highlighted that the friendship between Indonesia and France goes beyond symbolism, emphasizing the real and strong cooperation that exists. President Prabowo Subianto warmly welcomed Macron at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta during his visit.
Macron expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and stressed the importance of elevating the strategic partnership between France and Indonesia. He emphasized the need for collaboration in various areas including the economy, technology, security, and culture. The diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France, which have been upheld for 75 years, have seen significant progress in the last decade.
Recognizing Indonesia’s crucial role in maintaining regional stability in the Indo-Pacific region, Macron acknowledged the advancements in bilateral defense cooperation, renewable energy, transportation, and the energy transition agenda. Cultural collaboration was also a key focus for Macron, with a cultural agreement set to be signed at the Borobudur Temple complex as a symbolic gesture of the growing friendship between the two nations.
During his two-day official visit to Indonesia, Macron expressed his optimism for continued joint efforts and thanked President Prabowo for the warm welcome. This visit not only strengthens the ties between Indonesia and France but also underscores the mutual commitment to further enhance cooperation between the two nations.
