President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has recently emphasized the government’s commitment to eradicating smuggling and questionable import practices. Speaking at an Economic Dialogue event in Jakarta, Prabowo called on the Directorate General of Customs and Excise to take decisive action against illicit smuggling activities that have burdened local businesses and the public. Drawing from his military background, he stressed the importance of protecting the people’s interests and ending rent-seeking behavior in import activities.
Prabowo further highlighted the need for fair and non-discriminatory practices in the importation of raw materials, rejecting policies that benefit only a few large corporations. He emphasized the importance of creating a level playing field in the import sector to prevent the monopolization of import privileges by certain companies.
The president’s strong stance on combating import-related issues demonstrates his dedication to fostering a more transparent and equitable trade environment. By advocating for the elimination of rent-seeking practices and promoting fairness in import activities, Prabowo aims to safeguard the interests of local businesses and the public, contributing to a more inclusive and just economy.
